This is a cache of 12 steatite (soapstone) vessels found at a site on the Miss. Gulf Coast in the early 1960's. They were in a private collection and have been locked in a room in Ohio for over 40 years. Now thanks to the generosity of the owner/finder they have been returned to Mississippi and can be viewed by interested parties in the not too distant future. As for now they are being cataloged and studied by the Miss. Dept. of Archives and History. The date of this cache is ca. 1500 BC. A Mississippi treasure has been returned. steatite vessels.webp

Cool! They can be cared for now. With everything else going on in the world. It's nice to hear something good happening. So many people own some kind of our past. If we could put it all together in the right place. What a story it would tell the world.

very cool artifacts and story M.R...don't think anyone will be finding stuff like that on the surface much any more..very neat

Im guessing his wife told him he better get rid of something and he chose the bowls :)
