A mix of relics, coins and bling is still best.

Makes for a nice rounded day. :)

Now, I don't really know buckles. But, this one came from down very, very deep
in a very old place. It appears to be iron. Anyway to tell?

Blingie & Fishy seem happy.

AND....to cap off an almost perfect day, this one appears.
I swear, this one was almost 11 inches deep ! I was impressed!

Also, ones like this just don't show themselves much anymore. I don't mean
Indian Heads, but rather the very nice even green patina on what looks like
a shiny new penny that had been lost a full 150 years ago and came out looking
pretty much like when it went in. I used to get ones like this a lot when I first started hunting,
back in the '70's. Not so much anymore.

Yeah, this one's kinda special to me.
Very pleased!

Thanks for peeking!

Nice old Indian. They get such a great, green color.

Yeah, some of them do. But more and more these days, they seem to come out pretty corroded.
Ones like this are pretty rare anymore. Especially in my grounds.

The picture really doesn't do it justice.

Thanks!

Nice old old indian, real good shape too!

Great CW era coin, Whadi, congrats. The iron buckle is big enough to be a cinch strap buckle for a saddle, may be too wide for a people buckle. Sub 8-)

Yeah, it is a grand ole coin, Sub ole boy. There's not much that gives me the same feeling as pulling one of these from way deep underground.

The buckle? Yeah, since it was iron and sort of squarish. Something to do with a horse harness was what came to mind for me too. Maybe,
with some electrolysis a maker's mark might show. Just think how old this piece just might be! :)

Thanks!

Did that indian ring up in the high 60s low 70s? Indians would ring in like that for me with my atp but at that depth I'd be curious if it was different

Nice a crowd pleasing hunt, a little something for everyone! Congrats!
Blingie is happy...the world is good!
Awesome detail & patina on the IH.

Sunday I shall seek & hopefully find.

Again 'Sweet IH" & Great old Date.
Iron buckles don't get much love, I guess cause they had so many uses.
I love to find them, they always look real nice after Electrolysis.

Do you get many Makers Marks after cleaning such Iron Buckles?
Davers

That penny was appreciated more than I can say. You see, every now and then I will turn on ALL my listening powers/attention/skills and try as hard as I can to see what I can pull back from as deep as I can get. I was in such a mood when I turned this one, so it is especially sweet to me. The fact that it turned out to be in such good condition was just, gravy. :)

But, I digress. This coin didn't really "ring" up at anything. It first caught my attention as a blip in among the iron. As I went about listening and learning just what this target sounded like. I was able to determine two things at first. One was that it wasn't truly being masked by anything, just near to several pieces of iron. So, I could isolate the signal and found that it was repeatable, albeit a little shaky. Kept changing. I proceeded to do something I call milking the signal. Trying it from different levels/angles/speeds/etc. What I'm trying to do is see just what sort of range I can get.

This one blipped from around 53 all the way up to about 62 and repeatable. Usually, and depending on my mood and physical shape, I may not dig something with an iron audio grunt or less than 40. But, in this special, deep seeking mode, I dig it all. Better to teach me my assumptions may not be correct. :)

Also, I was using all of the ATP. Nothing notched out, Pro-Zero mode, full iron audio, full sensitivity. The depth read at max.

Then, once I've done all that preliminary I start plugging. I intentionally dig one a little larger than normal and start taking the dirt down in layers. Sort of like an archeologist's dig. I want to see what the target is, and exactly at what depth and which way it was laying.
This penny was laying at just about exactly 11 inches and flat. Was really neat seeing that little greenie down there! :)

So, is that enough information, or should I go into detail? LOL

OH Yeah! By the way, something else that impressed me even more was that I was experiencing some interference from some close by power lines. I tuned the ATP thru it's 4 frequencies and found one that lessened the effect.

Well, I don't get very many iron buckles as I really don't do as much relic hunting, per se. But,
I have had several iron items give up a date/patent/or mfg mark. Helps in figuring the age.

WHADAFIND I SEE FISHY AND BLINGIE GOT THERE EYES ON THE UNITED WAY MEDALLION , NICE FINDS ...

I hope I didn't explain too much. :dontknow: ;)

Great finds, man!!! I've got an old church site that has lots of iron junk throughout...maybe I need to suck it up, use your settings and go low and slow....digging everything!

Congrats on the sweet old IHC. Well done.

Thanks, Tom!

You know what it's like when a plan comes together. :) I set out to find something decent, as deep as I could and out comes this one.
Under some strong handicaps as well! Then, what came out turns out to be a very nice old coin. Yeah, it's pretty nice.

Here she is after some soaking and as much cleaning as I'm going to do. A fine example of an Indian Head Penny.
The word is that not many of the 1865's survived to today. Not an expensive nor particularly "rare" one according
to dates. But, they are always sought after by collectors. Just a nice bit o gravy to know it's even more special than I knew. ;)
