A new view of an old friend

[Old Dog]

This Collared Lizard suns himself on a boulder beside the road.
He was there a lot last year and must have gotten used to the truck going by.
He just sat and posed for these pictures like he was expecting them.
When I drove off ... he was still there.

the female isn't anywhere near as brighly colored.

There are three of these I watch regularly.
This one isn't the biggest or the oldest..
but he certainly is the brightest.

WOW, that is really cool. I don't think we have lizards like that our here in Calif.

I think you do, but they are prety illusive.
hard to find one who will sit long enough to get a good series of pictures.

This guy is the cherry on top of an awesome day.
Usually you only get 20 yards before they take off.

That's one colorful lizard.

Hard to get close to as well.
This one is about 21 inches nose to tail tip.
There is one we see on our presidio site that is even bigger,
but not as bright.

Good pics, OD. We have those in Oklahoma; I didn't know they were up here in Colorado. We call them mountain boomers. They can stand up and run on their hind legs. The males are far more colorful with a bright blue collar in the Wichita Mts. For some reason, this is the only place this occurs.
