I browsed over some of the other finds posted here and hesitated to even post these ugly, insignificant finds from an old homesite in the neighborhood where I grew up. They're not silver, but it's been so long since I've found anything old that I have to post! There is one house older than my mother's in the neighborhood, and there is an even older homesite on that property that is long gone. The tell-tale sign that people once lived there were daffodils in bloom, so I decided to do some searching. I got permission from the owner last Halloween, and had been searching an old brick foundation that I assumed was the house; I'll have to get some clarification from her now. Anyway, my first good signal came out of the ground dirty, but the size of a nickel. The only mystery was whether it was Shield, Liberty or Buff. Intense cleaning later showed it to be an 1892 Liberty Head. About ten feet away, I got your typical Indian head signal and then pulled out your typical Indian head - a 1902. Since I have a bunch of these (1902) already, it'll be packaged up for the property owner. At the same time, I'm going to ask her father (who grew up on the land), if he remembers where there might have been an outhouse! After another hour or so of coin-hunting, I turned to bottles; the old foundation has been filled in as a bottle dump. I managed to find a Bromo Seltzer and a small VapoRub, adding to my growing blue bottle collection. I also found a Pepsi bottle and a green Mason jar, neither of which has been cleaned yet. I'll probably end up posting them in the Bottles & Glass section.
I read all the other posts (when I have time), and long to find another site that spits out the old silver; this one still might, given the dates on these coins. The problem is, we're into baseball season again and that takes a lot of time away from detecting.
