A friend ask me to ID this. Her husband found it some years ago and they thought it was some kind of bullet.
I know it isn't a bullet. It is non-ferrous and seems too light for lead, so I guess it's aluminum or some kind of alloy. The diameter is about .75 in at the base and it has a threaded hole about 1.125 in deep and roughly .31 in dia. Is it just a finial off of something or is it something else?

Tip off the leg a surveyor's tripod?

old tent pole base. the pointed end would fit into a gromet in the corner of the tent

and anchor into the ground.

the shoulder would keep it from going thru the gromet.

I think each of the answers is good. I have some light aluminum poles, for setting up a tarp cover, that have the same shape on the end. I think I will go with the tent pole ID, even though the surveyors tripod seems likely, also.
That's 2 up and 2 down, today. You guys are good.
Thanks for the help, guys.
