Yesterday I only got a bird band to show for my effort, I have found several over the years but this time I tried the website for reporting the found bird bands and to my delight, after completing the required information and hitting send I got a reply within minutes.
Black Duck 1966 band.webpBlackDuck Band Info.webp

The band belonged to a Black Duck, that hatched in 1966 in Plum Island, Mass. Kind of neat getting the reply, may have to look for my other bands I found and send the data in.

Today I went exploring and thought I was going for a skunked event when near the end of the hunt I finally got a decent signal that was a 1808 Draped Bust Half Cent. So was happy to at least get one coin today.

Right after finding the Half Cent I dug a lead seal, upon cleaning it, not sure what type it is, but I cannot make out all the letters, they seemed to run off the edge and on the other side I can only see an H and one other possible letter, so no idea on this one,but hey, it is an old lead seal and it will go in my collection with the few others I have found over the years.......

Nice digs. Very nice condition too!

Wow, great finds, I really need to get back east to hunt. Congratulations.

nice finds congrats HH

Good stuff! HH

Nice finds. That Jersey soil is a lot more kind to those coppers than my Maryland soil. That half cent is in great shape!

Great finds. Although the half cent is amongst the tops of my bucket list, I must say the bird tag being identified is way cool.

Another one of those gorgeous coppers you're famous for digging. WTG Don!

That's very cool QUACK!

Cool story and amazing finds. Can you tell me what steps you took to get that coin looking like it does?

Brushed off dirt with a toothbrush, did a hot peroxide bath(20-45 minutes), removed loose dirt with many wet q-tips during that time period, when q-tips no longer showed dirt, rinsed/soaked in distilled water, dried under desk lamp, coated with hot bees wax, then buffed with dry toothbrush. Sometimes they come out good, sometimes not so good, all depends on how the coin's condition is in the first place, no control over what happened after about 200 years in the soil.......

Nice finds Don! Don't see too many lead seals found in the USA. The KA on the seal could be German for Kaiser. HH, Mike

Mike, thanks for the reply, I only ever found one other of this type , the smaller thick type, I believe Romeo found the same designed type I did a few years ago, now this one I only wish more of the lettering was visible, but it is what it is , darn it. :)

I just checked, it is only my 5th Lead seal, at least that I know of, unless some are still in my unsorted finds boxes. :)

Very nice half cent!

Thank you Don I will try that if Im lucky enough to get one.

Great find Don! I love the way the coins come out of the ground in your area. You must have the greatest collections of coppers and other goodies. You should come and speak at our club meeting and bring in all your goodies for everyone to see. I know that you have showed some of your coins but you should make a display and bring them in for all of us to drool over:) Another great find!!! Congrats!

Nice to see you posting the coppers! I think that I have only dug two or three lead seals in eight years.
