Good lord. So. I went threw all my finds for 2010. I started in may, or there about. I dont remember.
Anyway. I had a boring day. And started digging threw all my "junk" finds. I came across this "junk" earring I found out detecting. Thought it was junk anyway. I never saw a stamp on it. I even popped out a stone and tossed it aside thinking it was CZ. I even broke the earring loop.
So. In my later state of bordem some months down the road. I broke out my loop. And started to look closer at it. And there it was. A 14k stamp mark in plain site. This is NOT the first time this has happened. I have found silver rings and a nickel sized oval shaped 925- Italy marked silver catholic pendant in my "junk" jar as well. I should mention I do have bad eye site. And DO require glasses that I never wear. So. ANYWAY. having my loop present. I decided to go threw my junk jar. I found, three rings that were silver. And a silver cross I swear to god I thought was junk. IT looked like junk. Once I saw the 925 marking threw my loop. I figured I might as well investigate the stones. 18 small accenting diamond like stones. So I put her under a black lite to see what color the stones gave off. Typically. Fake stones like moisonite. Or however you spell it. Are yellow, sometimes green. CZ is, well. Dull. White. And Diamonds vary. At least in my experience using black lights. Better diamonds remaining a dark color. And lesser grade diamonds will glow blue. I noticed two blue glows instantly. And said, "NAW, Come ON"! And the rest remained solid. So. A quick switch to a diamond tester. And viola. Diamonds. Silver and gold.....sitting....for months....as junk....Just....Sitting in a junk jar due to my stupidity. On the bright side. Silver and gold prices did go up. So. I did well on selling the earring. And the cross. I decided back in October. I didn't really want to share my finds anymore. It started to feel, like. Bragging. Gloating. I dunno. Just felt like keeping it to myself. Besides. I have nothing to share you have not seen before. But this act of stupidity needs to be publicly announced. I strongly encourage you ALL to invest in a loop at the very least. As well as some testing acids. I was shocked how much I had missed. And not all of the silver was marked!!
So. My goal for 2011 is not, 100, or even 1,000 silver coins, or a bazillion gold items. Its to simply remember to wear my frickin glasses.

I always thought I had pretty good eyesight, but late last year I started getting headaches while reading. Then the wife and I got a bigscreen TV, she fussed at me for always trying to adjust the picture; to me it just wasn't clear as I thought it should be. Well, long story short, turns out I'm far sighted...went from 20/20 to no line bifocals. I hate em', but can't believe the difference with and without them.

anyway, congrats on your finds, I'll be checking mine again as well...lol.

lol, I can't stand my reading glasses at all! Always looking for em! Sometimes sitting here I catch a glimpse in the mirror and see I have a pair on my eyes and resting on my head also! Lossing my memory as well I quess. I always had great eyes until I neared 50 and boom! Don't think it's bragging showing your finds, it's fun for us! Show your bad days and your good days and it helps us feel normal. Glad you found some treasures you didn't know you had! Now wear your glasses cause like that stuff you found in your jar, you may be passing by things just sticking out of the ground too that you might of spotted had you been wearing em! Happy Hunting!

Ryan,

This happened to me as well. I found TWO rings in my "junk" drawer that were actually 925 silver. Oh well, it pays to keep even the "junk" and reexamine it later. Congrats on finding it for a second time.

Great story and good info, I agree with Tink its what this sight is for, posting our finds, I live in Oregon as well and we don't have any of the good old war relics that the have back east, so it's nice to see treasure of any kind. good hunting.

good save :icon_thumleft: good stuff. and with a setting like that, u know it is real. MR TUFF
