A story about Ambegris in Kansas...

My brother was hit by a train a few years ago. one day I was walking along the tracks where his car was hit and I said a prayer. and I said Matt please let me find something today, something amazing.

and right when I said that I looked down and saw a strange looking pale blue stone about the size of a nickel

I picked it up and turned it over and it had a tiny square piece of either copper or gold socketed into it.

after scratching with my fingernail and smelling it I took a lighter to it and realized that it was actually ambergris. unfortunately I ended up losing it but I thought it was very strange that a piece of ambergris would be found in Kansas and that it would have a piece of metal socketed into it.....

any idea what this could be?

That´s a very meaningful story. So sorry about your brother. If it was me, I would believe my brother left it for me. According to this screenshot, ambergris is as valuable as gold to some, so you have/had maybe some kind of pendant or jewel. If it got there naturally, maybe it´s not gold but something the whale expelled and then was dredged up for use in the track bed and trucked in? I hope you can find it again.

Ambergris is highly valued by perfume makers, a fixative that makes the scent remain longer, dog poop not so much

If that is truly ambergris, it would be the first piece that is light blue in color, none has ever been found in that color that I can find evidence of!!

I dont really think your comment was very appropriate, nor constructive.... I explained how to tell if its ambergris in my original post.

I´m thinking it´s a shade of gray that reads blue to his eyes.

no..... i showed it to my friends and they all agree.... a light bluish color resembling that of light turquoise or clear seawater. small black flecks. with a metallic piece resembling the luster of gold socketed into one side of it. It sucks that i lost it. :/ because it was a very profound find in my opinion. absolutely amazing that it turned out to be ambergris after all.

dog poop wouldnt smell like cotton candy when burnt. nor have the texture almost that of paraffin wax.
i try to do research and exhaust all possibilities before i come here and actually post something.

im not the smartest guy..... but in this instance i know exactly what im talking about my friend.

As someone who has literately bought millions of dollars worth of ambergris, I can say that what you had found in Kansas was emphatically not possible to be ambergris in any shape or form. Ambergris is a digestive byproduct of the Sperm Whale and is found as an expelled form of flotsam that is beach cast along coasts and shorelines around the world. Ambergris would never be found inland away from an oceanic shoreline, and if it was found inland it would only be found as a part of a closely guarded and secured possession in some perfumers safe or other secured deposit as it is very valuable and hard to come by or acquire. Lastly, ambergris is never blue, It cannot form in a blue pigmentation from its source point and in its many shades of oxidative degradation, from black to white, it does not enter any resemblance to a blue hue.
