A treasure hunter is entitled to see where are the shipwrecks says the director ....

So, Claudio the director says that treasure hunters have access to all the files, right? Does that include shipwreck locations?

Perhaps you should actually READ the article. Your question WAS answered should you be able to simply comprehend the context.

Yes!

I just wish they would hurry up and get everything digitized !!

I am sure it is a time consuming process, though.

I log on to the Pares site every couple of weeks hoping to find some new nugget of information I can comprehend...but since I only understand about 25 Spanish words...it's not much.

"The Archives has nine miles of shelves, not too big, but it's all worthwhile."

Heh.

I've spent some time in the last few hours failing to get my head around "9 miles of shelves". More than a lifetime's worth of research opportunities.

They must be using one hell of a scanner to digitize those documents. A lot of them have faded to where the ink is barely visible.

Jolly Mon <unrelated note - I saw nothing at the Wabasso Causeway Park that would indicate that mooring your dinghy in public would be prohibited>
If you would like to expand your 25 words of archaic Spanish, you could start here, mi amigo, with a vocabulary suited to read Cervantes' classic novel Don Quijote.

Thanks for the information on the causeway...it looks cool to me...I am sure I will be OK for a few hours, locked of course.

Thanks for the vocabulary links as well.

For anyone into such things, here are a couple of sites that maybe of interest:

If that guy can get me a Letter of Marque, I would gladly privateer for Spain. You know the usual 20/80 split. I'll walk all over those treasure leases! :)

".........Charles III, who was the king who decided that the archive was in Sevilla."

That's where the Casa de Contratación was.

A happy event for us!

in the old days the king of spain's cut was a mere 20% of everything brought back by other people's hard work -- now the 80 / 20 split --- is 80 % for the powers that be in place of the king and 20% for the peons ...
