A "US" and a "C" button, but...

Thought i had a Union and a Confederate button there for a bit, but alas, i was mistaken.

Not many finds here lately, but managed these two buttons within 100 yards of each other. I'm not much of an expert on relics, but these two got me excited.

The "C" button has a backmark of Thomas N. Dale and Co. Apparently made in the 1870's, and thus a little late for the war between the states. The button measures 28mm across, and is pretty high relief. A Confederate button would be an odd find for upstate NY...

The "US" button measures 21mm across, and looks to have a T-shaped shank (not pictured). The closest photo matches i could find would seem to date it closer to the War of 1812, which is generally in keeping with my past finds in the area. This specimen is fairly toasty, as you can see, and has no discernible backmark.

If anybody has any ideas that would pin either of these down a bit more, I'd love to hear them!
Thanks for looking, and HH. dwayne

Don't think the US Button is as toasted as you think.... Pm Buckleboy or maybe iron patch they will be able to tell you how to clean it without hurting the button...
