Heya TN. I traveled out to the mountains this morning to a spot that I knew is littered with quartz. The only thing on my mind was finding a gold quartz specimen. After striking out at the first area, my dad pointed out to me a new spot that was more abundant with white rocks. As I was approaching that area I dug a dime signal at a couple inches. Out pops my first silver 2-3 inches down!

1944 P mercury dime in great condition.

At this point I was thrilled to have found something. I've been digging all around for well over two years with no silver coins. To make things a little sweeter, 20 feet from the spot we noticed a landmark stone in the ground that said there was a 1800s church right there in the forest. The area is now just empty forest so I have a great spot to look at on next outing there.

Finally, this was the forest floor I was working in. Look at how rich that quartz rock is!

Congrats on your first silver!!

Sweet merc, congratulations on your first!

Congratulations! You can use google earth to look for clearings, old trails, foundations or cellar holes in that area. If out walking check for water sources like spring heads or nearby creeks. Back in the day people would travel miles to go to church and often bring lunch with them to eat there or at some point on the way home. Good luck!

You can use Pennpilot and use the drop down to 1938 aerials...

Sweet first Silver - Congratulations! :headbang:
