Some rain and warmer temperatures in eastern Massachusetts has helped to melt some of our snow, and make detecting possible again. I was able to get out for a couple of hours this morning, and took my time re-covering the area that produced a William & Mary half penny back in January. Good sounding targets were limited, producing a bunch of lead and other less desirable items.

About an hour into the hunt, I came across a jumpy signal, with a decent VDI. About 5 inches down out popped an incredibly thin silver coin. I couldn't ID it in the field, so I packed it away, and kept detecting for another hour.

Back at home, I was able to do some gentle cleaning on the coin, and was super happy to discover it was a 1788 Carlos III half real. It looks like it was in circulation for a very long time, but at least I was able to get a positive ID

Thanks for taking a look. Good hunting to all!
