What a sad day! He was always such a very, altruistic generous man. Always donated prizes to events. Made the world a much safer place with his top notch security equipment. I named my youngest son son "Jarrett" who was born with autism with Charles in mind. My sincere condolences to his very lovely wife and adult children........His top of the line equipment he produced towards metal detecting has filled in a wonderful past time for both my family and myself in many parts of the world......Such a sad day.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Dr. Charles L. Garrett died on April 3, 2015. An inventor, entrepreneur, treasure hunter, patriot, author, husband, and father, Dr. Garrett and his wife Eleanor founded Garrett Metal Detectors in 1964. Through the couple’s vision and direction during the next 50 years, their original garage business grew to become the world’s largest manufacturer of metal detection equipment.

A U.S. Navy veteran and graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Dr. Garrett left an indelible mark on the metal detection industry. His early inventions pioneered the modern metal detector and his security detectors were the first to protect the Olympic Games in 1984. The ease of use of his hobby products helped invite many thousands of newcomers to try out the sport of treasure hunting.

We are grateful for the contributions Dr. Garrett made to our industry, and for the fine example he always put forth for others. The Garrett name will always be synonymous with high-quality metal detectors, including those used in security applications, law enforcement, military, sports, and outdoor recreational use. Although he will be dearly missed by many, his legacy will endure.

God Bless to him and family.

I hope to one day find the ultimate treasure when I pass his way.

HUGE loss for the ENTIRE MD community. Many thanks to him for this hobby I so enjoy now With my trusty Garrett Machine and pro pointer!

We have lost two great men this year in Jack Gifford and Charles Garrett....

Hat's off to Charlie, he was a legend in his own time. I am saddened by his passing. Forever will I remember the picture of him tectin' in Egypt, showing the Great Pyramids off in the distance. Long live Garrett!

Sad to hear. Great man, a couple of his books were my introduction to treasure hunting. My first Garrett is in the mail headed my way. Seems like he lived life to the fullest and saw the world, made a lot of people's lives better by what he did.

Sad news R.I.P Charles. You have put a smile on many treasure hunters faces and mine is included. Prayers to the family.

A life well lived, which is no small thing.

I can to say that I lived happy moments using Garrett detectors. During many years, I kept dreaming to find gold and silver with my Grand Master CXII and GTI 2500. Also, I used to live of my detector finding coins and jewelry on the sand when I was unemployed. Thanks to Mr. Garrett, I can dream and keep dreaming to find the golden spot with my GTI 2500.

I hope Mr. Garrett be in the Heaven with our Lord. R.I.P.

He loved God and country. A great man. RIP. Prayers to family.

I cut my teeth on the GTA 500 many years ago. Several years back I dug my 100,000 coin using Garrett detectors. A coin hunters dream-machine!

Horrible news. Sitting here eating easter dinner feeling stunned. RIP Mr Garrett. A legacy and pioneer to this hobby. Prayers to his family.

A pioneer in every sense to our great hobby. He has given a multitude of detectorists the tools & equipment to enjoy our passion. Mr. Garrett was also highly revered in security and the military for metal detection. I thank him and extend my condolences to his family. The Garrett family has touched many lives and brought even more smiles than can be counted. My hats off to you Mr. Charles Garrett!

R.I.P I wouldn't be so hooked if it wasn't for his amazing machine in the hobby or as safe at work without the use of his security hand scanners used in my maximum security prison. :notworthy:
