a walk in the woods

Dig,

in the past I hunted wooded areas 90%
of the time. More into searching for artifacts
over coin or jewelry.

Wood offer you places where things may
have happend in the past. Old homesteads,
farms, meeting places, camps. Never know
what the wood will give up.

Don't make it just a walk in the woods. Keep
your eyes open and check out anything that
might seem out of place. Try getting yourself
into the most difficult parts of the woods, get off
the trails. Find a stream follow it, look for signs of
old roads. The more you really "hunt" the more you
will start noticing thing and putting parts together.
Follow deer paths, follow what you feel might be
something.

Helps if you do a bit of research on an area first.
If folks gathered or lived in an area that is now
wood, you can find a lot, including coins.

Plus I enjoy being out in the woods, just nature,
and you.

Never know what you will come across.

have a good un.............

I am always looking for old foundations and stone formations when I go into any new place .When I go to the mountains for hunting season I have found a couple of places but never got to go back ,but I have them marked on the gps so that one day I can get back to them. ::)

Don't forget to look up in the trees and on poles for wires or platforms where kids built forts and tree houses.

I detect more in the woods then in town, because I look for artifacts more than coins. Good hunting.

I have found more silver coins this year hunting the woods then all of last year...Keep your eyes open while swinging...Trails, clearings, old fire pits, fallen trees that have been chopped up, water fronts, old foundations.

I enjoy hunting and just wandering around in the woods as well. Keep in mind though, that woods presents hazards the average person doesn't have as much chance to run into...

1. Ticks
2. Snakes
3. Holes
4. Poison ivy/oak

and other stuff.

Just a word of advice - make sure you're prepared when you go in if you're gonna be well off the beaten path. Let someone know where you'll be and check in with them when you return.

That said, I love being able to dig without worrying about damaging some grassy area - I still fill in all my holes, but it's nice to not have to be as careful. You can find alot of interesting things in the woods if you keep your eyes open.

Good luck
