A way to clean this button so I can read the makers mark

Anything that cleans flat buttons without hurting them? I've already tried a toothbrush with soap and water. Any suggestions will help!!

Probably says UP[ER] [F]INE which is a quality backmark, not a makers, circa 1830s.

Boil it in peroxide and let it sit overnight. Then try brushing again.
