Barber Quarter. 1906. Sorry but it was a poor design in my opinion and all the Barbers I have dug were well worn out. At least I had the satisfaction of scratching the back of the one today. Still have mudballs from yesterdays digs, I'll find out what's in the clumps sometime this year or next. I have mud everywhere. And I mean everywhere.

I did get 3 Civil War era buttons and 5 colonial era ones today. No pics, just started addressing all the mud. I haven't dug everything out of the car yet.

The Barber dime I dug at a school yard a few years ago was a Almost Uncirculated, must have been lost the first year it was minted, a gorgeous coin

All the ones I ever dug were worn out. They were nice when new but the relief on the bust when minted was too high and wore out pretty quickly.

You can just mail it to me. I'll PM you my address [emoji6]

That'll work. Plus, I don't collect coins. The 18th century buttons I finally got made up for it.

Still a nice hunt! :occasion14:

I'm waiting for the freezing cold weather to "back off" just a bit (perhaps this week) then to the fields and woods I'll go! :icon_thumright:

Yes, a nice hunt. Going south today, and at one point had to take the jacket off.

I certainly hope you don't let your Command Vehicle become the third world land fill mine has!?!:o:nono::stop: I can't even open the passenger door for all the energy drink cans and plastic food clamshells tumbling out on the ground! Anyhow, too bad on the worn out Barber score. I reckon they are over rated. I'll take another Flying Eagle Cent, LC , Half Cent, or Fatty Indian over a Barber any time. I'd take a Colonial Copper but, just being realistic for my area.:icon_thumright:

Sorry it is in my Dansco Metal Detecting type set album.

The one I got looks like a steam roller went over it, it's that worn.

I dug 5 barber dimes and 5 barber quarters one time all beautiful with the exception of green oxidation from the Indian heads in the outside coins

Kurios1, I had to chuckle at your post. I got the trash out of the "command vehicle", it's AWD, and was in the field today. The mud will take awhile. I got a toasted colonial copper last week, but it had been awhile since my last. Spent most of the warm weather at the beach and cleaned up on clad and jewelry.

Well here in Texas, Colonial coppers don't exist and Large cents are scarce as hens teeth, so Barbers are always welcome. But I actually find more seated than Barbers. Go figure.

And I'm happy to dig through an inch of permafrost for a lowly clad dime! No whining about a Barber! I'd probably need a diaper if I dug a Barber, worn or not.

I’ve found a lot of Barbers, some really nice, most worn pretty badly. I agree,I don’t care for the design. It’s just not that artistic to me. Good find though! Oldest thing I’ve found in my area is an 1844 LC. I know there’s a Bust something in the ground somewhere but it’s gonna be a trick finding it.
I’d also take a nice really old copper over an ordinary date Barber, unless it’s a half.

But.....at the site I first thought it was going to be a 2 reale!

Well Smokey, I for 1 am happy that you hosted a hunt recently for a few fellow Tnetters. I am also happy to hear that you are also stable minded and disciplined enough to just let those "Mudballs" sit until you are good and ready to crack them open. I could not do that.
Congrats on getting out and on all of your finds.

Stable minded? Like flagging down the pizza guy on the side of the road or buying a pick to get through the 2" of ice? Not really. And now they are in the bucket and froze overnight in the car again. I had to much stuff to bring in.

Oh, you spoiled, spoiled man! :laughing7: Yesterday, I found smashed cans, pull tabs, 3 pennies (Memorials) and a post '64 Rosie. I'd be tickled to find any silver.

Being silver the lowly Barber can only be despised so much. Maybe it is just boring. I'm guessing the Barber years were the only ones they used the same design on dime, quarter and half-dollar? Someone help me here. In all fairness the shield nickel is far homelier.
