Thank you for your e-mail urging a veto of AB 1032. Active
participation by individuals like you is essential to the success of our
democratic process, and I value your suggestions on how government can better
serve the people of our state.
After extensively considering both sides of this issue, I am pleased to
inform you that I vetoed this bill. The Department of Fish and Game
(DFG) has the necessary authority to protect fish and wildlife resources.
Permits currently given by the DFG for suction dredge mining already
ensure that these operations are not harmful to fish species. My veto
message for this legislation may be found on the Official California
Legislative Information website at
www.leginfo.ca.gov.
Again, I appreciate your voicing your opinion on legislation affecting
the future of our state. An informed and engaged public is important
for effective government in California.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger
