from 1881 county History
The Keffer tavern, being situated on the road running from Tulpehocken, in Berks county, to Sunbury, in Northumberland county, became a landmark known of all men. It was the rendez- vous of teamsters, cattle drovers, and country produce dealers generally. During the war of 1812, or rather what was then called the Baltimore war, it was the hiding place of drafted men. The saw-mill at the back of the tavern was their retreat. The Keffer tavern, after Joseph Keffer left it, was occupied continuously as a tavern until 1880, when it was destroyed by fire. Among those who resided there were Daniel Harvey, Francis Sporetzer, Nicholas Bretzius, William Hall, Jacob Ernst, Charles Feather, Samuel Kimmel, Jacob Kenemel, John Brown, Edward F. Wiest, William Hechler and Emanuel Jenkin, who resided there at the time of the fire

It looks to me that you spent more time in research then time detecting. It's just a matter of time before you find something beyond the banner.

LOL Yea I've been researching the town since the early '70s. :laughing7:

Still learning things new, being the town is so small, there isn't allot of history written down
about it. & some of it is wrong.

Example the one History says the town was built in the 1915 :tongue3:

LastScanmm.webp

yet a topographic map from 1892
not only shows the Tavern at the Cross road,
it shows houses existed at my end of town.

Research Never stops.

untill today My oldest coin in the triangle was an 1812 Large cent

Thanks all !

Thanks All !

I'm sure I / We will hit it again.

I Definitely wasn't ready to leave so quickly, but My hunting Buddies only had a short time.

If we get another Comfortable day when we have more time, I think it's worth a more thorough hunt.

Great job on the copper!!

Congrats!

If not for the flat top, but mine may have enviro damage up there.

The 11 dosn't seem placed right on any, but only thing I have noticed no 1755's except counterfeit.
and supposedly stopped style in 1754 ?
so may be 1735 if not counterfeit ?
my eyes are going buggy :tongue3:

am confident on

Picture 079.webp

which still leaves 1775 though if the style fits the year
which arn't even close. only see George 111 looking right in '75

Nice post !

That bell if not broke would have been the find, and maybe still is.

Since it is close by, and your finding GEO II coppers, and bell like that I'd sure be giving it another go.

Good luck

nice old copper! I like the bell too.

nice old copper
