Hi all,
I have a question: My ace 250 in the coin mode sounds off on almost every metal object it passes over. Very few targets will be silent, even though they are notched out.
I have tried to lower the sensitivity and that don't help. It was my understanding that only the targets that were notched would sound.. Not so.
What should I do???? Thanks

i would contact garrett. something doesnt sound right.

Hi Tomcat,

I have found that many items that are discriminated out, such as iron will still sound. If you watch the screen when you go over a nail or other item, it will light up under the area that is shut off, but then bounce over to an area that is not shut off.

This is just the MD trying to figure out what it is, but having trouble identifying it.

If you see that the signal is coming under a point that you have marked to ignore, then there is definitely something wrong with the device.

I too think something may be wrong with the thing. Contact Garrett about sending it back. Good Luck.

Hold it... There may be a point.
Ferrious soil or even power lines can cause problems.
Check this -
Then- Pick program that fits... All metal requires experience.
Give a few hours to simplify things.
Your coil field is like an Axe underground. Use accordingly.
Drop sensitivity till some reality begins to show. Dig a few.
Check back. We all will recommend this concept first.

tomcat, lets see what we can do to help. I don't run a Garrett but most machines using a notch feature use it to eliminate a particular area on the scale they don't want to sound off on.
You say "very few targets will be silent, even though they are notched out." Then below you say
"it was my understanding that only the targets that were notched would sound..Not true."

I'm a little confused as to what you are notching out and what you're allowing to come through.
You might look again at the owners manual. The areas pertaining to the notching can be found on page 8 #5 (for the Ace 150-although it's a different machine, they're close enough to pertain). Also #2 on page 10 and on page 11. I've looked up and provided a pdf file of the manual if yours isn't handy.

If you're still having problems, then you can contact Garrett below.

I hope this helps at least a little and we're looking forward to seeing what you find. Best of luck and HH!

Good morning,
Thanks for the effort to solve this problem. I have been using the factory set "coin mode"
mostly. I have come to the conclusion part of the problem might be extremly trashey areas that I've been hunting. [multiple targets] together with possibly highly mineralized soil.
I will bench test today and see If that helps.
I suppose the sniper coil might fit my bill better than the standard coil that I'm using.
Have a nice day and I appreciate all the help.
tomcat :)
