Dug a first. Found a Admiral Vernon commemorative button maybe? See at the bottom of the button, got the wording "Porto Bello,. There was a battle call, Battle Porto Bello, between British and Panama Spanish Fleet 1739. Also dug some other flat buttons. 1700s homesite.

I believe,Vernon also attacked Fort San Lorenzo at the mouth of the Chagres river in Panama too...8-)

Its more a medallion & I have found a variant of this type.
Lots of commemorative items made of this, but the button is pretty cool.
 
I know this is an old thread but I had to comment...

Vernon's career in the Royal Navy spanned 46 years.

Most Americans don't know that George Washington's estate, Mount Vernon, was named by his older brother Lawrence, who originally owned the property.

Lawrence served under Vernon and named it to honor his commander.
