Advice for helping folks

I just received a text request from a friend of a friend to help someone retrieve a personal item. I like to help others when I can.
I offered to help, then discovered it sounds like a full day deal. A 4 hour round trip and the area might only be accessed by kayak. No mention of any payment, gas money or reward. I may only get a pic with the item if I find it. Kind of a busy time for me right now & not sure when I can connect with this person.
Just wanted to through this out to all of you- What would you do.

I would try and find someone closer to help them
I got friends all over new england that i can contact to help if they are closer

Agreed, I told them all I would need is a pic if I find it. They must have found someone closer or found the personal item on thier own as I have not heard back after offering to help.

I would have sent them the link to Ring Finders and suggested they search that data base for someone in their area.

I get the request ever few months, My opinion........ best to turn it over to the Profession Ring finder, someone that enjoys spending 5 minutes to all day helping someone.

If I am right there at that moment, and asked.. No Problem
