I just stumbled on a recent video from Merrill of Metal Detecting NYC entitled “Beach Metal Detecting Has Changed Forever: Gold & Treasure In 2026”. I was curious to hear what was changing for us this year, and Merrill didn’t disappoint. He announced a new website research tool for detectorists called Subterrix. BTW, he kept referring to Subterrix as being his website, so sounds like it might be a website / tool that he put together. He’s a schoolteacher by day.

I only spent a few minutes perusing the website, but from what I saw, it looks like this site will have every research tool known to man that a detectorist could possibly want, and there also appears to be automation and AI built in. For instance, one of the tools is called BeachCut. Put in the beach(s) you like to hunt, and BeachCut will monitor the conditions at those beaches and will send you a text message when the beach is developing a cut or experiencing erosion. How would you like to know a cut is forming before anyone else?

There are tons of other tools: I saw that LiDAR was available, then there’s a tool that will tell you the best places to search in your area, another tool gives you a historical background of an area that you’re researching, another tool gives you weather information for the beach/area you want to hunt.

And this tool could be a bonanza for those who like to hunt permissions. Get this, with this tool, you can find out who owns a property that you’re interested in detecting, and then it will generate a permission form for you to use to ask the owner for permission to hunt the property. Just think of all the possibilities that this tool would provide for land hunters. I haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

I don’t know how much it costs, but Merrill mentioned that guys can get a basic plan to try it out, and that plan includes 20 credits per month. Each research tool “costs” a certain number of credits to use. He also mentioned an Elite membership; there may be other membership levels as well. For those who may be interested in the Elite membership, Merrill provided a Discount Code which gives you 40% off an annual Elite Membership. To take advantage, use code: dig1776

Also, some FREEBIES:

For detectorists under 25
, Subterrix is Free - includes Free access to Subterrix tools with 60 monthly credits, a referral code, and early access to new features.

For U.S. Military Veterans, Subterrix BaseCamp is Free - includes Free access with 100 monthly credits across every research tool.

I think I’m gonna sign up for the U.S. Military Veterans free membership and try out some of the tools. Like I said earlier, this site looks to have every research tool imaginable, but they’re all targeted towards Metal Detecting. And if these tools work well, this site could really be a game changer!

finding a property owner info is easily do for free through your local government information services/GIS website. Google county auditor for the county you want and enter the property address. A much simpler way is to use the regrid app (also works on your computer). You can enter the address you want, geo coordinates or simply touch the property on the map and it shows you acreage and owner. Free to use, and they may have changed it to you need to be signed in to see owner address. You can also see who owns the most property in said county and check what is state, county, city owned so you may not have to ask for permission on those properties.
