Advice on buying detector

I am a novice in this area.
I'm torn between the Tesoro Vaquero and the Minelab X-terra 705 gold pack.

Is that the cowboy is cheaper but I have an offer for the Minelab discounts.

Mainly seek gold in soil with vegetation and small rivers.
The advantage I see is that Vaquero is waterproof, if I am not mistaken, but the Minelab seems more complete.

What is your opinion on these models?

Both have waterproof coils (not all of the X-Terra's are) but neither one's control housing is waterproof. The Xterras prospecting feature may be exactly what your looking for. The Garrett AT-Gold is completely waterproof and geared for prospecting also.

I'd go with the AT Gold. An If your talking about nuggets there is the Super Lobo, Gold Bug, etc.

I would look at the Fisher F-19 also. It is essentially a Gold Bug Pro in relic hunting clothing. It has quickly became my favorite detector in 3 weeks of using it. The red backlight is very handy, adjustable V-break, notch, 40 levels of iron disc, and an all metal mode that still gives you a VDI reading. The controls and screen are very easy to use and at 2.5lbs it is very fun to use. The standard 10x5 solid elliptical coil is good for vegetation and stubble.

In the end, I'll buy the Minelab xterra 705 gold pack because I get a good price here where I live. Other models do not sell or I get rather more expensive.

Welcome to the forum.

I believe the AT Gold (as stated by Sandman) is a great choice. The water proof feature is great when hunting rivers. If you are hunting rivers (slippery rocks), ponds and lakes one slip and you and the machine could go into the water; I know from experience. Nevertheless, you can find some very interesting things in the water. Whatever you choose for your machine, learn it well and most of all have fun!
