...I've decided to give a "thank you" to:

The people in my small town who never minded me as a little kid cutting through their yards.
The old lady with the apple tree who never complained when I would climb it and eat apples.
The folks who hired me to mow their lawn, shovel their snow, and never worried about "liability".
Mrs. Ryan, who let every kid in the neighborhood play basketball on the backyard court she'd made for her son.
The people who gave me permission to fish on their property.
The farmers who gave my older brothers and I permission to hunt their land.
The theatre owner who allowed my friends and I to change his Marquee in return for free admittance to the movies.

And to everyone else who gave permission, because in the old days people shared, didn't sue at the drop of a hat, and were generous, trusting, and enjoyed giving a little of what they had for others to enjoy.

Thank you! I know many of you are up in Heaven, where you belong. I miss you.

Amen!
Recently ,last year was my 30Th. highschool reunion and a couple of my friends that never moved away saw me mowing a house in my old neighborhood that use to be our busstop. At the reunion that night my one friend asked me if that was me and how much that old witch was paying me,I just walked away from him like I didn't here him and then one of the girls that was younger than me ,but use to use that bus stop asked me the same question but called her by her real name,Mrs Adams.I told her that my parents still live down the street from her and she was having a huge garage sale a couple of years ago after her husband had passed away, she had a ton of stuff that dated back to the 1930's,all of his suits, clothes ,coats, books garden/lawn items, etc. well I bought a few things around the last day which was sunday evening.I told her who I was and how nice her husband was for letting school kids use the side of their hose as a busstop and also to break those col north winds that we would get in the winter and even one time her husband took us all to school because we all missed the bus.She told me that her and her husband never had any kids and ask me who I thought would want the stuff she didn't sell,I told her to try her church 1st,and then maybe donate it.well about a week later I noticed her grass started really getting long,so I threw my mower and string trimmer in back of my truck and started to mow her lawn for her,I've done it now for about the last 4 years now.Just the other day I got this real nice letter from her sister and her and the decided to move her into an old folks home in another state,I'll really miss her.
P.S. I never took any money from her,but I loved the stories of her and her husbands adventures throughout Texas.
