Aftermarket Coils

Question for all you electronic hounds:

I realize the coil must be tuned to the detector, however
do the use of aftermaket coils (non-brand) have the ability in anyway to damage the unit?
I see alot of aftermarket coils, but being that everything is digital now (or leaning that way), I wonder
if they can harm your electronics?
 
If an aftermarket coil was designed to work on a given unit, then there's just about zero chance it would ever damage the unit. If you connect a coil to a wrong unit, then the chance is no longer zero.
