The guy said the person who cashed in was told to take them to a coin shop but he wanted the cash now.

The person that cashed them in was not the poor sap but rather the guy he stole them from I'm thinking.....

If they were stole that sucks, but you still got them and thats all that matters. :o
 

i think that most of the proof coins found in the wild have been stolen and cracked out of a set. i just don't think anyone else but a thief would be that stupid

Kids oftentimes will get proof sets as gifts from grandparents, parents, etc. Not knowing their true value, they'll break them open and spend them.

I've done that for smokes around 13 years old.
 

Very cool. Not as cool as the guy that got one for a buck but still an awesome deal. I know a teller who has a stash in his drawer, didn't think of asking if he wanted to sell it when he showed it to ME and every time since I been there someone else has helped ME- its only 90% though still worth a shot. HH Mark
