Almost fainted

Found this about 6 inches deep in the same Victorian site I found the antique Tiffany gold ring. I couldn't concentrate so I headed to my local jeweler to check it out. He took one look at it and said their fake. I don't know guys, maybe I should buy a tester?

Unless they are dirty and/or have a film of dirt or something else on them, then I would say that there is a fair possibility that they are real Diamonds! I say this because several of the stones have the appearance of being cloudy and if the were glass or CZ's, they would not be cloudy. Lower quality Diamonds are often cloudy due to inclusions and/or carbon inside of them. Try cleaning them up using toothpaste and a toothbrush, rinse good, dry them and then post some pics of the pin in natural light (outside) and try to get some where the sunlight reflects off of them. Once done and the pics posted, we might be able to better determine if they might be Diamonds or not.

Take them to another jeweler, or a couple of other jewelers, and see what the consensus on them is. Sometimes a single individual may just not feel like putting the time and interest into a walk-in appraisal who isn't going to buy anything.

I didn't read your whole post before posting my comments. They look real to me and that's why I said what I said.

I would at the very least get a second opinion because they definitely look real in your pic.

BTW, I believe Tiffany's will tell you what they are for about 500 bucks!!

I dug a silver ring with CZ stones that I thought were real diamonds. But, it didn't take long at all to see that they were fake. Your situation may be different. How well do you know this jeweler and do you completely trust this person??

This is the best I can do. You can barely see the solder points where I believe it was either a ring or attached to a brooch. Might remove them and do the dot test on a piece of paper.

That was my thought as well. If the back is open and clean, you can tell by whether you can read anything through the stone.

A gold/silver test kit that I got came with a diamond tester as well. Wasn't real expensive either. Worth it having something on your side before you go to someone else.

If I had to guess based on the quality of the setting as seen from the back, I'd say it doesn't look good for them being real stones.

But don't take my word for it. It's just a guess.

Pretty! Hope they turn out to be real. Not the prettiest of settings which isn't a good thing but you never know.

You can spend $20 or $200+. The good ones I think start about $100. I bought one with my gold and silver test kit and it seems to be accurate. I paid like $39 for the complete kit.

My friend had some weird jewelry that had both real and fake diamonds in it and I was able to tell the difference with my cheapo tester, and I have used it since on other items as well. It works.

Pick up a diamond tester on e-bay they are inexpensive,under $50.00, good tool to have around. Besides you won't go crazy wondering whether or not they're real stones and runnin' down to the jeweler..

Dot test them first. I bought a tester when I found a diamond in the road in front of a grocery store. I wasn't for sure so I invested in a tester. About 100.00 dollars. It tested real diamond. I had it appraised, found out it was a 1.6 ct. diamond worth 5,350 dollars. Then I almost fainted. Good luck. If all else fails take it to a jeweler. They will tell you if it is real.

Please remember that diamonds are not worth much, best I have found is 10.00 per point - so 100 bucks for 1 karat, and the color, cut, etc does not matter much. Pretty sad, I know..........

Stop driving your self crazy and get a diamond tester. I've had diamonds turn up in a 925 silver ring so they could be diamonds. It looks like the real deal but hard to tell from pics.
