1. Is this a rock or a lump of metal?
2. Why is there no reason for... whatever this is--to be where you found it?

IME, we sometimes conflate 2 mysteries into one:

1. What is the object, and
2. What is it doing here/how did it get here?

Can be very different questions, related or completely unrelated.
