Got 2 rolls of Ike's from a bank today and was excited when I poured them out of the roll into my hand. I could clearly see that I just found 11 Clad proof Eisenhower coins, More than I have found all together in my 4 years of CRH. But my excitement turned to utter disgust when I saw the faces of them as both the front and back of the proofs were rendered useless. It looks as though they were scraped against the sidewalk.... On Purpose....... >:( ??? :dontknow: :icon_scratch:

Perhaps someone took a grinder to the proof set?

Oh the horror! Who would do such a thing? Pizzed ex-wife? GF?

Best to just melt and forget.

FFD,

The melt on a clad Eisenhower would be far less than a dollar. Better off to spend it I suppose.

FFD,

Your use of the term "clad" is probably technically the correct way to describe 40% silver (that is what my local coin dealers call it). But on this site the term "clad" is almost always used to describe non-silver coins, so that is what I figured Mojo meant.

Yes Copper Nickle Clad.

Thought the photo showed it good enough. Still a crime and a heartbreaker for me.

Ha, exactly what I was thinking before I read your comment, someone who truly appreciates coins would never do that. I guess the guy should have spent more on her diamond instead of buying proofs! ;D

Still, their Ikes.

Ikes are not rare or hard to come by depending on where you live. You might even be able to get your bank to order you a $1000 bag of them. Some here have done that I have read.

I pick them up when I can just to see if they are 40%ers but never found one. I have been able to get 2 silver dollars (one Peace and one Morgan) while picking up Ikes, so it was not a waste.

I just sold eleven Ikes to a friend who insisted that I take $15 for them. The locals in Jamaica love 'em, and he spends them there as tips when on vacation. ffd

tried to order ikes from my banks (boa and capitol one)
no love there
