Howdy from torez.
I need help in finding out if this is an American Indian artifact. Also where can I see more pics of anything like it. I would also like to authenicate it if it is real and not a reproduction. I would welcome all comments very much.

Thanks torez

Looks like a war hammer.

I am not an Amerindian Expert, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express. ;D ;D ;D

OMG...you are a silly one. That was too funny.

Torez, it looks too refined. Just has that -new meant to look old - vibe. Perhaps I'm wrong but what an odd shape and what would it be used for?

Where did you get it and what did they say it was?

It was funny!
I got it as a gift. They said it was a "slave killer" on the "what is it" forum but I can't seem to find anything online about it.

They did in fact make axes that look like that, some assumed that they were used in ritual killings with no real proof but the name "slave killer" ended up sticking anyways. They are way beyond RARE. Here's one site with some more info.. here they claim that there are fewer than 75 authentic ones ever found. They have a nice picture there also of a real one.

The fact that you don't have any provenience or history of the piece in combination with the rarity of authentic ones would lead me to believe that it's a reproduction.

Thanks cannonman17,

Even if it is a reproduction it is of great quality. I will keep trying to see if it is real.

Not like any slave killer I have seen, most like a war hammer or axe, but in design it has a pre-columbian feel, I would lean towards Aztec or Mayan. No help with authentication though.

'Monolithic stone axe', if Authentic, it would be a
Museum piece, & (Priceless).

Fossis..............

Thanks for the note Fossis. I have contacted two people to see if it can be authenticated but I haven't received any response. I will keep my fingers crossed.
