I have4 my step Grandad's Grandfathers watch. American Waltham. The Hallmark on center/inside of back of case says Pat. April,22 1879 w/ Fahys x Monarch x No1 x circling it. Also on the back cover is 614387 and there are several hand scratched numbers (workers marks?) x750x,x969x,x1667,29278, and 3 or 4 more i can't read. On the mechanism is 5014963, Saftey Pinion and American Waltham Watch co.
I've also taken pic. of a badge/medal w/ Mr. Overbey's name and the units he served w/ during the Unpleasantness between the States. I think this was for the Urich,Missouri Reunions that were started in 1890's for Civil War Vets., both Union and Confederate. Mr. Overbey lived near Urich,MO.'
Also is shot from local history book.
I'm guessing the watch is 14 or 18 K gold, very heavy and keeps great time. Thanks for any help.

According to the serial number on the actual "works" it dates to 1891. As for value, I can't really help. here is some info.-http://www.nawcc-info.org/WalthamDB/LookupSN.asp put the serial number 5014963 in the search box. As for the case, I would expect it to be marked accordingly if "solid" gold.
