Converse calls this an expanded center bar amulet in his book Ohio Slate Types. This is the only slate piece I’ve ever found and also the only drilled piece I’ve ever found. Good slate is not common in Central IL. The source of good quality Huronian slate is IN and OH. This piece was heavily damaged by the plow and I’m lucky there was this much left. I found it in Piatt Co IL in ‘92 or ‘93. I always thought it would make a good handle for an atlatl. Or maybe a fishing pole.

Some pretty slate-high quality, I've only ever found a few pieces here in Ohio, one was a nice amulet.

This one is on eBay. It has the nice flaired ends.
