I went to the treasure seminar today at the Satellite Beach Library, it was a good seminar, learned some aspects of treasure diving I never knew about. Also, met Mumzie and WreckDiver1715, good to meet you folks!
I hit a beach access area and set up the family, had a good time for awhile building sand castles, etc.. and finally decided to try out the Tesoro Sandshark. Let me start out by saying, I now hold in the highest regard the ones that hunt the surf. I'm not in terrible shape, but not in good shape either, and after about .75 hour in the drink swinging the coil, trying to balance when a wave hits, etc.. I felt like I did 5 rounds with a heavyweight. When I came out of the surf, I felt like my swing was 5x the normal speed I swing at, the relief was so great. And today seemed fairly calm out there.
About the site:
Satellite beach appears to have a lot of large, flat-ish rock in the first 30-50 feet of surf, at least the area I detected in. Detecting in this area is tricky for several reasons.
1) It has the potential to be an ankle-twister, especially when you go between levels of rock
2) There were a lot of signals that were -in- the rock, or perhaps under them, entirel unrecoverable. There were enough of them that it got old rather quick to dig/fan down to a rock, and i eventually abandoned the rocky areas to go deeper in to the ocean. I'd say 70-80% of the hits in the rock area were that way.
3) When you do find something diggable in the rock area, it was generally not scoop-able, you had to get in with your hands and dig around, and sometimes a bit under, rocks.
The Finds:
Surf: 4 lead fishing weights, 1 penny.
Land: 1 penny, 1 fishing weight (the large circular one), A lot of scrap aluminum/steel, 3 pulltabs, well rusted bottlecap, and a "Stainless Steel" Gerber all in one tool, that wasn't so stainless after all
. Also I found a fishing hook at at least 8 inches, but it somehow escaped my bag.
Also I learned few things:
1) If you get in the drink above your knees, you really need to get a long handle scoop, period. I had a hand scoop and had a target that I couldn't recover because I was just below chest deep at the time
. So a Nuttall is in the future for me 
.
2) My detector did really well. It found the fish hook at about 8 inches. I like to dig every target (as you can see) so the detector fits my style perfect.
Overall a fun day. In the end I gathered up my 3 greatest treasures and we all headed back to Orlando.
