I've had this thought for quite sometime, so might not be a today's thought, but it did cross my mind again today, so here goes. I'm curious to know if anyone else has noticed this, or if it's just me sinking into self madness.

It's really quite simple and basic when one gets down to it, what does America need? Let's theorize for a moment....America needs to get it's priorities straight. America will survive without multimillion dollar hollywood actors/actresses. America will survive without over-paid professional athletes. America will survive without rock stars and hip-hop artists. America will NOT survive without people that have the skilled trades to provide a safe and maintainable infrastructure. America will not survive without properly trained medical personnel. I think you know where I'm going with this. Most people who look for a job want to go where they will get the most salary/year with potential for growth. (and most people now days are just damn happy to have a job.) The youth of today mostly seem to want to be rock stars or professional athletes.....which is where the big money is. How about this? Let the actor/actress make $25K - $50K / year and boost the wages for the people that have the skilled trades that will make America run more efficiently. If that were to happen, you'd see a very large surge in tech. schools and apprentice type programs and I really believe you'd see an increase in people who actually care and are proud of the job they do to help their own little corner of America. C'mon America, lets change our priorities!! It's a simple age old question of 'needs' versus 'wants'.

Anyway, I didn't post this to step on toes, it's just been on my mind for some time now and I just needed to get it out. Take it as you will, it's just one man's thought.

Very true Spooky. It just seems so obvious to me, and find it hard to believe that the people in powerful positions don't seem to get it. I guess certain people just want the easy way out instead of earning their keep. Some days it makes me sick.

Most of these types of slanted afterthoughts struggle due to impotent etiology. Not to lecture, but establishing your definition of who America is, is needed. John Wayne, James Cagney, and George C. Scott were Hollywood employees. Need I go on here? Babe Ruth made more income than the President in his day, I believe Roberto Clemente died in the deep blue sea attempting to deliver food to the needy. Vince Carter has donated millions to education and programs addressing the troubles of our nation's youth. As far as 'limiting the wages for actors' and 'boosting the wages for working people' sounds like 'Controlling' free enterprise ie socialism. Sorry, not me.

The single problem in America is the sweet connection between the Government's check book and the multinational corporations who suck the red ink off the wet pages.

America, how I define it, We The People...need to somehow reduce the size of govt on all levels, and one can start by cutting all their salaries in half, axe their life long pensions for one term of lousy service, and make them have access to the same health options we the people are offered.

Enough for now.

btw, You have this Father, Husband, Gov. contract worker, Business owner on your home page...Gov. contract work.....???

Wow Cappy, didn't realize I would hit a nerve, and then to end with a personal attack on me is really quite childish. Not once did I ever say that actors/athletes/etc. never do any good by throwing their money around to help in dire situations. I believe my statement was that we don't NEED them for the country to survive. You may WANT to become a rockstar, but we don't NEED you. We need carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc. etc. For example, let's say you don't have any city public works employees and you get multiple water main breaks. You are now without running water and people will freak out. Who's going to fix that? Certainly not the overpaid baseball player, or politician, or actress, etc.

As for my place of employment, I will clarify since you brought it up. I work for a private contractor who has a gov. contract for a military installation...hence, I work under a gov. contract. After almost five months without employment, I was damn lucky to find this job.

discovery_bound - I agree with you in sentiment, BUT these people are paid what the market dictates. We, as consumers, set that market.

You said "...Let the actor/actress make $25K - $50K...". Do you really mean to set a top wage for a non-government employee?

Agreed! Not to mention outsourcing, free trade agreements, torts, lobbyists, lawyers and China in general. Oh yeah, and the general overall lack of common sense of a majority of the American public as of the last couple of decades. The dumbing down of America.http://www.deliberatedumbingdown.com/

Diggin,
Good point. I guess I didn't really think of things in that perspective, and as I rethink this I really don't have a personal problem with athletes, actors, and the like. Hey, I watch movies, sports, and listen to music. I've just heard too many of our youth all talk about how they are going to be rich and famous when they grow up and take the so-called easy route to success. What happened to the kids that wanted to be firefighters or policemen when they grew up? As I look into my 'crystal ball', so to speak, the future of America will fall upon the children who have not even been born yet and I will be long in the ground. At the current trend, it appears we will have a nation of people without skilled trades who won't understand how they get running water. Heck, most people now don't understand you need a source of water, a treatment facility, a distribution system sized acccordingly, and you will need people who understand how to properly maintain all these systems. If we can set a trend now to have a higher priority on people learning skilled trades like I've mentioned before, we will have a well-run infrastructure system in the future. Like I said in the original post, it's just one man's opinion.

When I was born they took me to the cotton fields while they worked. When I was 5 years old they made me my own cotton sack. I pulled enough cotton to pay for my school clothes. I heard stories about how the rich white man came in and took our land and made us work for him. I heard stories about how the Indian was lazy and made no use of the land. So you fit in the middle of that. We never cared for your government, it was just something that lingered there in the background, but we always tried to comply with what they dictated and believed in them. We worked very hard for every thing we ever got. We never thought we were 'entitled', and maybe America needs more folks like that now.

It all boils down to corporate greed....Get the most profit from the cheapest method....Send jobs to India and you won't have to pay a living wage so you get more profit....all those Americans with no jobs are not buying cars, buying fast food, no new gadgets, no home repairs because they foreclosed on their home, no more gas to buy and so forth. No body wants to pay a living wage anymore. I was trained for six months on air conditioning repair. graduated with an 100%. Sent out resumes for a year and got one reply asking if I could start at $3.35 an hour which was less then what i was making at a
7-11 store. I have totally given up on ever having a career. The best I can hope for is a crap a$$ job just like the two I have now.

We have or gonna have a problem here soon,I was listening to the radio and they were talking about this so called carbon tax that's coming soon and how it will move all the big manufacturing jobs out of the U.S.A. because they don't limits on pollution, and dumping of haz-mat,etc. I tell you I hope this doesn't happen. :help:

Wow... I think if you don't work you should not eat and you should sleep in a gutter . If you can't work well then you can get some help but most people like on the video would not work in a pie factory! It's the Gimme wheres mine state of mind.

Good point. Problem is I'll be a rock star maybe. Only money I'm giving out if to JDRF and my parents and a farm I would build on 'my' property that i already have, but I have to share!. With my cousins, not the best neighbors! I was thinking of having an Apple tree farm since we where alittle famous for growing stuff. Also a store/restaurant/bar, Because where "my" property is it's really really poor area, I was hoping I could bring it back to the 1930's again. I know my family has throw money down a hole and I'm not going to let that happen again. Oh yes my cousin and me may have a talk once where gown up and my grandparents are dead, hoping not soon. I was thinking we could reopen the Bait business again, my Grandfather did so well for quit awhile. He would work at Lost Creek at the camp and I would get the hill so I can start the farm again.
