Hello Folks
I was out detecting one of my favorite places and recovered this. The area I recovered it from is near a stream and is kind of a hollow in the woods. It was about eight inches down in the soil.
From my quick research and what I have been told so far it is a 3000 plus year old copper adz, or copper celt .
I am going to try to get an expert opinion from someone on staff at one of the local big colleges nearby, in the meantime feel free to burst my bubble if you don't think it is what I have been lead to believe.

Okay, sorry, I misunderstood you. The compiler is often unclear.

Thanks folks, and thanks for the nomination.. I have some emails out to some friendly archeologists that will hopefully confirm what I hope it is.

Outstanding copper celt ! It is big and well made in my humble opinion.

I say Celt also, love the hammer marks from the annealing process, don't clean it.

Pretty sweet if it is one. What state are you in9

That is one HECK of a find :icon_thumright:

Thanks folks, I am in New York

Wow! That's the coolest American tool I've seen so far, or I guess it possibly could've been traded. That has to top your best find list! Though not gold or coin for eye appeal this deserves banner!

That is one cool tool, ancient American hatchet- that has to be one if not your best find- you should be proud!

In close to thirty years of swinging a detector that coin will be the first thing I have ever sold.

That's some serious cash its getting. Sweet find!
