Went this Tuesday past and did the little metal detecting speech to the local scouts. Was I ever nervous! Room was FULL! Not only of the scouts...but the parents as well! Didn't have a clue as to what I was going to say untill it left my lips. :P :D But I did manage to get by and ended up having a wonderful time. Got a lead to a new site that I hunted last evening for a bit and then several hours today. Was a school back in the day...hubby's Mom attended it in elementary school...so I thought that was neat. The folks that live there now turned the school into a house 35 years ago. I think I dug more junk in those several hours than I have dug in a long time! I did get a couple of keepers. It's funny how you can paint a picture with the finds one makes. There are two really big trees out front and the boys played with their cars under one...and the girls played dress up under the other. :D Lots of modern change... ??? and one buffalo nickle (no date). My favorite car is the little tootsie car and I thought the compact was special being that it was my first to find. As I was leaving ......getting that last minute in, I found the part of a cap gun.

So much junk...gets kind of discouraging until you hit paydirt...

Wow Nana ...You did do alot of digging...but looks like a great time....Whats that little gold thing in the pics...sitting on square27...
and by the way...photographing on the calendar was a good idea, makes it easier to ask "what is it". :)

Congrat's on the IH and all the rest,Everything will be keeper's after all that junk ;D.....HH Nana and good point Gypsy...

Nana, that looks a lot like the stuff i dig in my yard.... the little yellow van with the wing on top reminded me i had one of those when i was a kid except mine was green.... the name of the van is "Spoiler Sport"..... dont ask me why i remember that........ BTW you just got the honor of recieving my 100th post hehehe

As always, Great Post Nana!

I'm working a really old lumber camp right now and digging enough blacksmith tools and products to fill a museum! ;D I've removed about 200+ lbs of 19th century tools and relics so far.

Soon I'll be down to the coin jewelry part of the hunt. I've often thought to myself--I bet Nana would enjoy this site.

Take care good friend and keep these awesome posts comin!

Badger

AWWW...thanks ya'll! You're the best!

Gypsy...it's some sort of jewelry.....here's a better pic of it.

I will say that this site has taken quite a bit of patience...but after three visits here my patience is running a bit thin. Only one Indian/buffalo nickle! :-\ I just can't believe that I am doing something that terribly wrong. :P I don't think anyone has hunted it since these folks have lived here. They are so interested in what I am doing and haven't mentioned it being detected before. ??? Most of these coins I am finding are from the 70's and up. Was detecting a very big hobby in the 60's? Maybe someone beat me to it by 40 some odd years! :D This school is pretty old. Hubby's Mom is in her 80's and she went there as a child.....so surely some coins were lost back then! I don't know...but it has been fun talking with the lady there...she's very nice. I know that I will go back there at least one more time....Her grandson was there yesterday, he looks to be about 8 or 9 years old, and as he was leaving he asked me if I found any cars if he could have one....I told him yes and today I took the best looking one with me. He wasn't there but she said he had asked his Dad if he could have one of them geiger counter things. :D So I told her next time I come I would bring my extra and let him look for some goodies too...but if he found the first silver......I'd get him! :-X :D

Thank you Marty! ;D

And you are right Badger...I'd go huntin there! Thank you!

Nana ;)

Nana, is there a date on the bottom of the tootsie toy? It looks like it is from the 50's, if so chances of the site being hunted in the 60's is a little less. Keep SLOWLY plugging away and the stuff you are looking for will come. I find that when I hit a site like this I tend to start going a bit faster and miss some targets that were very faint signals. This is usually because I get tired of digging junk and I am looking for the "treasure", but I subconsciously miss some of it because of going to fast!

Great finds so far and I hope you get more!
