Detector(s) used
garrett ace 350
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Hello all i am new to the hobby only been at it several years.

My first detector was a freedom ace plus. It is an amazing machine i have found well over 60 dollars in clad change more then a dozen cheap rings and pendants and
A dozen wheat backs and a 1902 Indian Head Penny. I am still looking for that first silver coin it will come in time.
That being said it is a hot rock finding machine it will not handle a tot lot with pee-gravel might as well give up and move along it goes crazy and you cant use it.
Any rocky area and it just wont work it will not stop beeping.

I knew i needed an upgrade to a newer machine the freedom ace plus is from the early to mid 90's if i remember right.

So after months and months of lurking on every detector forum and website and review place i could find i pulled the trigger and bought a
Garrett Ace 350 it was in my budget and i like that it is very easy to use and garrett customer service is the best there is.

Now back to the hot rocks i am easily distracted by bright shiny objects.
The ace 350 worked way better then i had hoped it handles the hot rocks with ease
I have to turn down the sensitivity several notches but i don't have it beeping out of control like my old machine.
The reason i went with the 350 instead of the 250 was the DD Coil and higher frequency.
The DD coil handles the heavy mineralized areas better.
And please tell me if i am wrong the 350 does not lose depth when you turn down sensitivity that main point was worth the extra money for the 350.

Thank you all very much i cant say enough how much i have learned reading in this forum.
Happy Hunting

sensitivity setting is output power setting so in theory you get less depth at a lower sens.setting...however..there are many(too many)situations where full sens.setting can work against you.Hot rock area, black sand area...basically any high mineralization area.excessive trash too.
I have nearly always noticed improved performance on every machine I have ever owned by running sens. at a couple bars below max.I suppose no mineralized loamy or sandy conditions would allow maxing it out...maybe.Nulling the signal because of nearby iron can be a big problem with high setting as well as stability.
I would suppose max sens. isnt used much by too many folks as default.Lucky for them if they can without negative effect.
cheers

I would turn up the iron discrimination before turning down the sensitivity to eliminate hot rocks first and see how that works :)

350 owner here. The answer is "it depends". Objects with more mass can be found deeper, so even though this weekend I put the sensitivity down way low so I could focus on coins closer to the surface (about 4" down), I was still finding larger-than-coin objects at 10". If I don't find a coin at 10", I just stop.
