an old badge ...help!

this badge is brass & still has the pin on the back,says speacial police with a no.2 in the middle......any help iding would be great.....qtr is for comparison.

thet were often used by store dic's and other "private" cops and such ---not normal policemen---like a modern day rent a cops badge. Ivan

no markings but the pin on the back is in working order.....it was found at a civil war battle site.

question is the civil war battle site part of a state park---could be a old style "park ranger / cop type badge" ---it has 3 numbers little 3 big 2 and small 8 from what I see might be his "badge number" 328? just a wild guess.
