Found this button at a 1850’s church site. Appears to have been a gold/brass colour at one time, but that’s all I know about it. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Some sort of US navy button, but could also just be costume jewelry.

Welcome to Tnet from Toronto MDC! :hello:

Unfortunately, your button looks to have been in a fire.
I'm thinking it's a mid-19thc Merchant Navy button, the one-piece casting almost looks too thick for a modern blazer button. :icon_scratch:
If there was any way you could clean up the back, you might find a makers mark.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge then myself will chime in here.

Thanks for the welcome and for the insight on the button!
It could very well have been in a fire as I was finding pieces of brick and possibly ash in the dirt. I will have to do a bit more cleaning on the back and see what that may reveal! :icon_thumright:

I'm no button expert, but I don't think that shank would be typical costume button, would it?
