These doors that include the frame and threshold open in the middle and close using an interlock system looking like a wall. Does anyone know the origin of these and possible age and the significance of the blue metal plate. The last three photos show the back side and the heavy bent nails used to secure the front pieces.

From India. The small blue plate is written in some form of sanskrit. It indicates 4/47 I believe. Probably the house number.

Here is a pic of a similar style door from an antiques shop in Okhla, South Deli, India.

Note the small blue plate on the upper right.

BTW... Some of these old doors and frames sell for $2,000 - $4,000 US.

MAny of these types of doors exist... and were a product of India.

Carved from many types of wood and made to look very "rustic" and castle like.

At one time they were very popular.

Yeah I've visited many antique shops in Santa Fe and Albuquerque and they'd have a good stock of these architectural pieces from India, plus old rustic furniture and other things that look like it was made from other pieces of architectural salvage from India. That stuff goes real well with all the southwestern home decor down there.
