Nokta FoRs Gold, a Gold Cube, 2 Keene Sluices and Lord only knows how many pans....not to mention a load of other gear my wife still doesn't know about!
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
This critter was around when some of that ancient gold
was just getting deposited...

Some kind of prehistoric lizard creature...

My 10 year old grandson (the one that prospects) sent me this.
Seems he and dad were at a garage sale and there was a 5 gal. bucket
of rocks for $5.00, and he couldn't resist. In the bucket he found
a number of large agates that have great color, and several of these
plates (shale?) with various fossils embedded in them. He told
my wife that "Papa needs this for his collection"...:occasion14:

Cool find. I have some 85 million year old fossils I found in the Bald Hills West of Redding.

That's a very cool fossil! I think it might be a fish, it appears to have a fin just behind the head. Very strange, but that just makes it better.

You may very well be correct! The shale rock or pic needs to be rotated 180 degrees.

Very cool fossil Dizzy! I have to admit that from the title of the thread I thought it was going to be a self portrait. Glad to see I wasn't too far off.

You have to admit..... you left yourself wide open for that zinger! ;)

Too bad you never find something like that with a nugget laying next to it in the rock, lol. Now wouldn't that be something to find a fossil with an attached nugget from the same time. Dennis

You don't think your grandson was trying to send you a message do ya? *grin* Very cool of him to think of ya and send such an interesting fossil.

Nah..he's just a great kid! He's had his own challenges in life, but
he's doing good though, and will grow up to be a good man.

Extremely nice fossil find and for that price a steal for sure. Congrats and encourage that boy!!John :headbang:
