Thought that we might get away with the heavy rain forcasted today, the day started of quite dry with just a few spots ...And Then The Rain Came...with vengence, braved four hours of it, before giving up the ghost

Not much to show I'm afraid but managed a few bits including another poor Roman Silver(debased) and a nice Bronze of Lucillia

Soaked through...need new waterproofs now for winter. The control box from the detector is in the airing cuboard, just to make sure there is no moisture in it

Our fields that I hunt here are heavy thick clay. Turns to concrete in the summer.
The British (Gen. Cornwallis) soldiers appropriately named a marching trail "Pudding Ridge" When the soil gets wet here, it resembles pudding. Imagine trying to march on that!

Mike that field can be totally wet and sticky on the morning, and then powder dry on the afternoon. It really is a joy to dig on, so sandy, it's the Farmers best field but most of his fields are the same
