Got out this weekend for two hunts for about 5 hours . Yesterday was the better of the hunts  . Hunted an older area of San Jose with eagleforce ( Ryan ) and did pretty good  . I found three rings , one being 925 silver with a blue stone . This brings my ring total for the year to #129  . I also found a sterling ear ring :icon_thumright: . The best finds were a 1939 plain mercury dime at 5 inches :hello2: . It was a clean +81 vdi in a dirt area . Then about 10 minutes later in the same dirt area I found a 1944 wheat cent at 4 inches .The other wheat in the picture I got in change today , a 1945D. Ryan also found two wheats in the same area  . After about two hours we were ready to leave . I thought I would dig one more target and I'm glad I did  . It was a +45 at 6-7 inches . As I dug out the dirt out popped a coin . It turned out to be an old Chinese cash coin , my 2nd this year . It dates from 1796 - 1820 , Emperor Jen Tsung . Not as special as the Reale I found last weekend but I'll take it :headbang:! Total clad for both hunts is $15.96 .

I'm always amazed at all the rings you find.. I'm guessing you hunt a lot of parks, do you find a lot of silver coins along with your rings? I'm not a park guy myself I like the old homesites, but I know parks are very productive for a lot of people

I have to agree with that statement. I've been revisiting some school fields and getting pretty lucky lately.
I tried to hit one after work tonight but there were two soccer games and a football game going on.

Of COURSE, I made detailed mental notes where the crowds of spectators were gathered. ;)
Guess where I'm heading first thing tomorrow morning??

The weather is supposed to be perfect this weekend too.

What areas of the fields do you start out with and where have you had the best luck??

I've had great luck on those soccer field sidelines lately, along and straight out from the first and third base lines, center field, all around the bleachers behind and to the sides of the backstops. I also hit where I know the spectators hang out, set up their lawn chairs, etc. That's where the pull tabs and juice bottle lids are.

Under and around shade trees has proven to be pretty good too. I just HATE digging around those huge roots. Inevitably, you'll get a nice hit and the target's right under a huge old root you need a Sawzall to cut through. .

I sometimes hunt inside the soccer field lines (wherever it's heavily worn down as a starting point) but I often don't hit the inside too hard. I don't wanna' mess up the fields in any way and get banned from hunting.

If I'm overlooking any good areas I'm always open to suggestion. I was avoiding schools for a while but I'm hitting them pretty hard again in the limited hunting time I have in these short days. I figure the odds are a bit better when there's not much daylight.
