The fields are finally starting to open up here in Jersey so me and buddy went to one of our favorites and we hit it hard for a few hours with good results......started out just meandering around a little bit and picked up a flat button and a bucky ball then zeroed in my target area of the day.....
Popped a darn Merc dime from an area that had previously given up a Capped Bust half and Capped Bust dime...was a little disappointed but whatcha gonna do.....keep on swinging. Buttons were flowing by now and then King George II made an appearance and he was in a fighting mood so it was on...he was deep, about 10-12 inches but after a brief scuffle Chuck Norris quickly subdued him with a choke hold but not before ole KGII called out his posse.....ended up being 1730 half penny. Worked that area for a bit more and then wandered to off to see what my buddy was up to. He was holding a large cent and a mess of buttons too
Hit a few areas of the field that have been good in the past and scrounged up a few more buttons and trinkets....an Indian even decided he wanted a piece of me but single chop to the neck took him right out.....decided to head back to my starting area since it was producing the best and picked up another KG copper and a cool button in a wash out....more on that in a minute. This one ended up being 1799 KGIII half penny
Got back to the original area and continued finding a few buttons and bits....including the coolest pocket watch winder I've ever found. Then the last of King George's crew came out swinging, he put up the hardest fight of all....another deep one down in the side wall....dateless KGI Dump Farthing I think...smaller than a half penny.
Decided this was enough fun for one day and packed it up to try and beat the traffic home.....well, here's the mess for the day...

and the coinage....note the damage to the Indian penny from the karate chop

Nice KGII copper dated 1730

Here's that cool little flintlock gun shaped watch winder....awesome

Now for the GOOD buttons.....late 1600s early 1700s blow hole or vent back button, Rev War Navy button!!!!!! and one of those crazy 1820s-1830s Phoenix buttons from the Haitian Militia 26th Regiment......whoooooooaaaaaaaa....what the heck is that doing out there
??

Its toasted....came from a wet area in the field but it is what it is....you can see the 26 at the bottom, some of the flames under the Phoenix, some of the right wing and some of the letters to the right around the rim...CEND.....its hard to see I know but its there, you can trust Chuck Norris
If you're not familiar with the Phoenix buttons, do a search online and check them out....some cool history on them and some cool theories about how they came to be in the States. They are a pretty rare find here on the east coast...much more common on the west coast but common is a relative term....

This is a nice example I stole off the interwebs for reference

Any ideas what this is.....find them all the time but have no idea what they are and if I should chuck them or keep saving them

And for you fresh out of the ground guys....here's a few shots

Well....thanks for looking and reading this long winded post but it was a great day and hopefully a sign of things to come this fall relic season in Jersey. Later....CN
