Walked into the house tonight after a long day and my wife told me to call DV Jr right away. He was across the road hunting the hillside where I found the solid shot the other day. I never expected that he would find ANOTHER 12 lb cannon ball about 50 yards from where I found the first one!!! Its been a long time since he had found something other than shot or dropped bullets so he was way overdue. There was much celebrating in the woods! We'll be back there asap to carefully go over the whole area. Thanks for looking and HH!!

2 within 50 yards....thats outstanding!!! How did you get it to clean up so well? That way when I find one I will know ;D

Nice find, keep up the good work and hopefully more will come from that site. Looks like you might have a good site there. What state are you in? Was there a battle or skirmish in the area?

I KNOW that you are going to grid
and search the heck out of that place!!!
Great finds.

Way to go Great find

I cleaned it with an air tool called a needle scaler. Its basically a set of little steel pins that knock all the rust and corrosion off, then I hit it with a coarse wire brush.

I guess I should say I told you so, but I really did figure you had a chance at another one. If the first one happened to be shot then there should have been more. Congradulations men, those are wonderful artifacts to have in your collection. Good luck finding another. I predict at least one more to come. ;D

Nice find. I wish they had more of that stuff in my area! We like seeing others find it though!

Those are pretty awesome!

Stupid question for you from a 'Northerner'... are they a solid ball, or hollow center with additional black powder or something?

I've read stories on people finding cannon balls, bringing them home to clean them, and BOOM.... Whenever I see you guys find these, I always wonder!

Congrat's to you both, now you have some awesome bookend's

Awesome find! That must be the coveted relic to find for a CW hunter!!! Congrats.

Awesome! Do you have to worry about them exploding? :tard:

I believe they said that theirs were solid shots. Those were used primarily for battering. They also had balls which were hollow. They contained pitch and usually some round balls. I was lucky, my hollow one came out of a river with no fuse in it so there was no danger, unless you dropped it on your toe.

Man, that is just AWESOME!!!!!!!

Nice! It cleaned up real pretty!
