Had another great time out in Maryland this morning. Had a few brokes and a couple of nice points.

Hope you all had a great day out there, too.

Nice! You've got some good spots. I was out but it was freezing, blowing like crazy and the water is still way up. Found one but left it in the car. I can't wait for summer!

Still a jerk... it was fun getting out with you even though I only found brokes. I swear I am your good luck charm.

It was so windy today and I left my long sleeve shirt at home. Only had a hoodie and t shirt. Not a smart move on my end haha.

Hah. You definitely bring me luck. Can’t wait to get back out there again. Your two brokes in the beginning were huge. Can’t believe that’s a possibility to find them that big.

Post that big quartz piece you found!!! That thing is amazing.

You did very well.

Nice finds , is it a clean break on the bigger quartz stemmed piece or does it look ground on the top? Pic almost looks like it could be a hafted scraper

Thanks all.

Arrow - I think it’s snapped at the base. See photos:

Couple of questions:

Can anyone help ID the black jasper piece? I’m still learning material and names. John - I forget what you thought it was called.

How do you grade points? Is there a quick way to know how well a find is? I have zero intentions of ever selling my finds since the value of my memory of it weighs more than money, but I am curious as to what makes some points valued more than others if I ever want to purchase any at shows or online.

I’m looking in to purchasing overstreet.

Well you cant go by the guides on most prices. Its their opinion as to what they think its worth which most times is a lot higher than the real prices. If someone likes drills more than points they say they are higher in $. I can tell you I cant sell a drill at a show to save my life but if I was to find one I would like that. Most finds now days are field grade and field grade is any place from $2-$10 each. The smaller they are the cheaper they sell for. My collection isnt worth a million but I sure do like finding them no matter what the value is. Unless its a real fine piece its not going to be worth much but it sure beats sitting on the couch, rock

I can tell you the price of anything you post but most would shock you for the amount of time it takes to find a whole one. I like finding them more than buying them.

Thanks Rock! I am more interested in knowing what makes people want one over another. Not so much the actual price of mine. Lots of times I see ones I like online and just didn’t know what makes some “better” than others.

I think probably depends on the person and what they value. But seems like in general the bigger the piece and nicer the craftsmanship the more they bring. And seems like anything Paleo is worth more than others. As for me I Have given a few points away to people that really appreciated it but I would never sell ....to me they are priceless even tho most would only bring a few dollars each.

You can ask any price you like but its the actual selling is what counts. I always ask 3x what I want for a piece. The material means a lot, the color and if there isnt any damage and the size. Quartz is a different animal when it comes to the prices in the south. Flint is the best seller at the shows. Maybe up north where most are quartz it might bring a higher price but in the south quartz doesnt bring much unless its a old piece or really big and you can see the work.

Thanks guys. Yeah, each artifact tells me a story, memory and feeling. I don’t have many artifacts just yet ( maybe a total of 15), but I can just look at each one and it brings me back.

The only thing I’d ever do is give one away, just like you mentioned, arrow.

And what are your thoughts on type of point and age of point of the black jasper one I found?

Maybe Madison for the type which would be woodland period , I thought Levanna at first but they seem to have more of a curved base. Also may be flint for the material hard to tell....... stop finding so many points in Maryland lol

Haha thanks arrow. Madison is what John said too. I just forgot.

I dont sell my personal finds but I do buy collections or pick some up that are for sale in different places. I bought them from local people when I 1st started hunting points so I could get an idea on what to look for.
