As I posted before I have researched where the fairgrounds were since the late 1800's and the first site produced a lot of silver for my brother in-law and I. I knew it was by no means hunted out and I got a 5" coil for my Teknetics T-2 so I wanted to try it out. There is a lot of junk there so I was hoping the 5" would work better than the stock coil.

It's really HOT out there and today was 95* with about 95% humidity. I decided to search where my brother in-law searched last time with my AT Pro. It's right out in the open but it's mostly sand so easy digging. The first good hit brought up a 1937 nickle in really good shape. At first I thought it was a ring. A few more hits produced pennies that were in crusty shape but look to be Wheaties. Next I dug a bunch of junk. Tin pieces, a few bottle caps and parts of toys.

About an hr in I got a good silver hit and it brought up a mercury dime along with an 1905 Indian head penny both in good shape. At this point I was over heated and started back to the car but still hunting. I then got one of those signals we all dream about. Silver, large. This brought up a 1940 walking liberty half and 2 more mercury dimes all in the same hole almost on top of each other. If it wasn't so dang hot out I'd still be out there but then there is always tomorrow.....

I have never dug a nickel older than 10 years that wasn't purple and discolored... even in sand. How is that buffalo so clean?!?
Great coins. That's a great day's hunt in that kind of heat and humidity. Congrats!

Nice hunt, love those kind of days!!!!!!

yup, the buff has some descent detail for sure, very nice finds!

Ya, I'm surprised too. They usually are real worn and discolored. This must have been dropped not long after mint date. The fair was at this location from 1923 to 1951.

Beautiful coins.

That's some fine detecting on those coins. That smaller coil may get you more when you go back. GL out there.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks. The smaller coil did make a difference because I could almost concentrate on one signal instead of trying to figure out 3 at a time. The ***** is it's slow going and can't cover a lot of ground.

Killer hunt, congrats! :occasion14:

That's an excellent day. Your perseverance in the heat paid off. Congrats!

Wow! Amazing! Great finds and beautiful condition too. You found a site we all dream of. Keep it coming!!
