I know what it is, it is a Classic Head Cent, I don't know what the date is, I might get dates at a later date. I didn't see your reply on the other rubbing until I got home with this one. If I get a shot at another I will get it closer to the mike for you Gary and rub a little harder. I'm hoping I'll get that silver on video, then you won't see any rubbing, might see a little licking going on, lol haaaaaaaaaaaa.
Yep, that coin was talkin'. I heard him say, "I don't get nooooo respect!"

Like has been said before...and not by me..."If it ain't seated, it ain't cr*p!"
I'm not of the school that teaches "absolutely NO cleaning of ANY old coin is correct". I disrespect my clad even worse than you! LOL But, if I can tell it's older than a memorial cent, I do slow down. Knowing the date, or even what it is in the field becomes less important. I mean, even a 1909-svdb hasn't much numismatic value coming out of the ground. But, I'd hate to think I sandpapered the vdb off trying to see.
As far as the "licking" goes? Not knowing what's been put into the ground that could do to copper what it does, will keep me from EVER putting a find anywhere NEAR my mouth, ever! There are limits! My best friend and former partner used to do that all the time. He always poo-pooed any of my grimaces, or comments with it won't hurt ya. He's dead now. sigh...... truth.....I miss him something terrible! Nuff said?
Each has their own style, but if one calls himself friend, he is obligated to point out things that are dangerous, no matter the consequence.
Keep plugging, rubbing and licking to your heart's content!
