I returned to the park that I hit on Monday. The temperature was 40 degrees with no wind. Because of the frequency of my digging, I almost took off my sweatshirt.
The E-trac was my weapon of choice and I was using the S.E.F. coil, I was able to get right up against a low wall that had obviously been used as a bench. I must have picked out 50 coins in this area alone. Lots of trash but the S.E.F. is more than capable of separating the trash from the good targets.
After a 5 hour hunt, the coin total was 131. The coin find of the day was a 1908 Indian Head penny. It was 8 inches deep. It was pretty caked and worn. Almost toast. A bath in hot Hydrogen Peroxide and then a soak in olive oil brought it back to life.
I also hit a lot of costume bling. I chased 3 pieces of a bracelet until I was satisfied that I got it all. I also found 4 key fobs and some brass scrap.
The most unusual find of the day was a "Swift's Golden West Fatted Fowl" lapel pin. My research on line says the patent date of one,, that is for sale on Ebay,, is June 9, 1924. The back of my pin is toasted.

Nothing like a delicious fatted fowl for Christmas dinner :cat:
Great IHC, these NYC parks are pretty old so it's not unusual to find stuff from 100+ years ago, keep up the good digging! :treasurechest:8-)

Awesome coin count ATW. I bet it will be a while before you switch coils. You more than covered your bus fare didn't you?

I'm not new to this website, but new to having an account. Awesome finds man, been having some luck of my own recently with modern coins. I've only detected in two spots with my Garrett ACE 150, need to upgrade soon. My oldest coin is 1962, that's good for now. Keep it up, and Happy Hunting!

Great hunt as usual atw. Glad you can still get out. Shoveling coins beats shoveling snow any day.

I retired from NYC transit. That means: "Free Fare for Life."
That applies to all NYC buses and trains that are operated by NYC Transit.
That really doesn't matter because I use my motorcycle to get around, (most of the time) and also because I will soon be moving to Pennsylvania.

I was in exactly the same spot about a week ago. Got 3 Indians and a Barber dime. Other 2 guys got 2 mercs, roosie and an Indian. Most of our stuff came just up hill from the tree to the left. This park is appropriate for Christmas time if you think about the name.

Hey Don,
Good to see your response.
That park was great when it first became a park we are permitted to hunt. The Russian, (Alex), pulled over a hundred silver from that hill and Boris got a gold coin.
I personally pulled more than 65 silvers from there.
It would be nice if you posted your finds more often.
You always come back with some good stuff.
