Another Mystery Iron Relic. Trailer Hitch? Wagon Hitch?

[FreeBirdTim]

Found this iron relic under a flat rock next to a stone wall. Seems to be some sort of hitch, but not sure how old. Looks like it attached to a wooden bed, so maybe a wagon hitch? Tried to find one with a Google image search, but came up empty. Any help as to how old and what it was used for would be appreciated.

The second photo would having me thinking along the lines of it being the hanger for holding an axel.
